- 1 & 1/2 tins of good quality tomatoes
- 1/4 of a cup of tomato paste
- A handful of fresh basil
- A handful of fresh oregano
- 3 cloves of garlic
- 3 tablespoons of olive oil
- 3 small to medium sized onions
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 & 1/2 teaspoons of sugar
- Coarsely chop the onions and let them simmer in the olive oil and sugar
- Finely chop the garlic and add it
- Add the tinned tomatoes and tomato paste
- Coarsely chop the fresh basil and oregano and add it
- When the onions seem soft enough, your sauce is done!
TIP: Sometimes, the canned tomatoes may leave your sauce with a slightly bitter taste. I find this can be fixed at least slightly be adding a grated carrot for a sweeter taste. But if you aren't interested in adding a carrot or if your sauce is still too bitter, I suggest adding a bit more sugar. But ALWAYS taste as you go to see what is missing or what tastes you would like to amplify.
