Blackberry Mint Passion Iced Tea

Heavenly and so refreshing for summer!

alchamilla tea
mint tea
lemongrass tea
lemon
blackberries
ice cubes
sugar
water

  1. I used a combination of alchamilla, mint and lemongrass tea but feel free to use any you like! In a pitcher of water, leave in your teabags to let the flavour seep in.
  2. In a saucepan, make a sweetening syrup for the iced tea by placing three parts water one part sugar until the sugar is fully diluted. Let it cool before adding it to the pitcher of tea.
  3. Toss in mint leaves and lemon slices
  4. Remove the tea bags when the taste is right for you.
  5. Allow the mixture to cool and garnish with ice cubes and mint before serving!

Pomegranate & Banana Whey Smoothie

Whey is one of the best sources of protein and this smoothie makes a full meal. (Inspired by Anne Louise Gittleman)

You will need:
Half a banana
2 tablespoons of pure whey powder (mine was banana flavoured)
A cup of water
The seeds and juice from a full pomegranate
A shot of pure cranberry extract
1 teaspoon of flaxseed oil
A pinch of stevia

Very complicated recipe... toss everything in a blender and drink it! It should make about 2 full glasses but having them both is a full meal with protein, healthy fats and wonderful fruit.

A song from Saud :)

Lemon Mint Water

This is so simple and easy to make. It takes literally two minutes to put together and is amazing in the summer, or any time of the year really.

You will need:
A full jug of water (sparkling preferably, but still is great too): approximately 1 litre
A handful of fresh mint leaves
Two large lemons or limes
Optional: 1 and a half tablespoons of honey

1.Wash  your mint leaves well and add them to your jug of water
2. Wash the outside of your lemons because you will place them in the water as well.
3. Squeeze the juice from 1 and a half lemons into your water and dice the left over half and add it to your jug for garnish
4. Add your tablespoons of honey if you want and stir well
5. Add some ice cubes and serve!

Tip: I like to leave my jug in the fridge for about 30 minutes or more to let the flavour sink in but if you're using sparkling water, the fizziness will go and then you'll be left with weird flat water. Lyke... really serious problemzz.

Strawberry Peach Smoothie with Yogurt

A delicious meal in a glass - healthy and full of fresh fruit

You will need:
  • Half an apple of your choice
  • A small handful of strawberries
  • One tablespoon of yogurt
  • 4 ice cubes
  • One medium sized peach
  • 2 tablespoons of water (you can use juice if you prefer)
  • A bender or food processor
Okay.. now I must warn you, the preparation of this is very complex and should not be attempted by someone who is new to cooking.
Uhm, no, kidding, just put your ingredients all together in a blender or food processor.. and serve.

White Sangria

During my trip to Ibiza this summer, I discovered some wonderful Spanish recipes. Sangria has proven to be one of the most refreshing and easy drinks to make.

  • You will need:
  • 1/4 of a cup of sugar
  • 1 bottle of white wine (Pinot Grigio or Sauvignon Blanc)
  • 1/3 of a cup of cognac
  • 1/2 a cup of sparkling water
  • oranges, sliced (and any additional fruit you want to add)

  • Steps:

  1. Slice your fruit and mix them with the wine, cognac, and sugar
  2. Stir well
  3. Leave your jug overnight
  4. Before serving add ice cubes and sparkling water

Make sure you enjoy a sunset here and there :)

But the sangria wouldn't be complete without some classic Ibiza chillout.

Red Sangria

I would be a huge liar if I even tried to call this traditional sangria because neither am I Spanish, nor is there any "traditional" way to make sangria. Everyone has their own method. Let's hope you like mine!

Depending on what fruit is in season, fresh or available, you can put anything in your sangria from cherries to kiwi, banana, apples, strawberries, oranges... etc. It really just depends on your preference.

You will need:

  • A bottle of red wine (I used a Spanish desert wine, if you don't use a sweet wine, you may want to add in some sugar)
  • 1/3 of a cup of brandy (depending on your alcoholic palate)
  • 1 cup of orange juice (freshly squeezed is ideal)
  • 1 cup of soda water
  • Freshly sliced lemons and oranges along with any other fruit you decide to add

Steps:

  1. Slice your fruit and combine your slices in a jug with everything but the soda water
  2. Leave in the fridge overnight
  3. Before serving, add soda water, ice, stir well and serve!

And thisssss is a pretty awesome my friend Chase just passed on, give it a listen ;)

Caramel Hazelnut Hot Chocolate

Today Alvaro came over to do another interview for Radio Frontier for the food show, Hot Stuff, and I made him yummy hot chocolate. Aside from the fact that I was pretty sick and had spent most of the day in a dressing gown, looking like garbage, and of course, ended up sounding like a man for the interview, we had a good time.

For two mugs...
You will need:
  • 2 cups of milk
  • 1 deciliter (100 ml) of hot chocolate powder
  • 2 heaping tablespoons of Nutella
  • Salt
  • Caramel
  • Optional: whipped cream and chocolate

Directions:

1. In a saucepan, pour in your two cups of milk

Tip: I am pretty terrible with measurements so I usually fill up the mugs I am going to use to measure the milk. I fill them about 3/4 of the way up with the milk before adding it to the saucepan... yet somehow, I always make too much.

2. Add hot chocolate powder and nutella to the milk
3. Put in a pinch of salt (weird, I know... but sooo good)
4. Stir until well mixed and warm
5. With a spoon, rub caramel all around the inside of your mugs
6. Pour in your hot chocolate (I find it easiest and cleanest to do this with a funnel)
7. Garnish with whipped cream, grated chocolate and caramel

And thennn I spent the rest of the evening wallowing in self pity with a hot water bottle, a frightening amount of tissues... the dressing gown returned. Obviously, I was really attractive. But hey, my friend Oliver showed me a pretty fabby song. So I can't complain.
